2011 Chatham Chess Challenge report

A great day in Chatham!
We had an excellent day in Chatham, over 160 players from 17 schools. Thanks to Mr. Graham from Victor Lauriston for being the announcer, and getting us started on time. We had lots of fun, and finished early.

Individual medal winners for 2011 are listed here! The annual trophy and pennants were awarded based on the total scores of the top 10 players from each school. I am pleased to tell you that the top school was Our Lady of Fatima, second was Mgr. John Uyen, and third was St. Elizabeth. A close 4th was Christ the King.

Many thanks to Benjamin Lawton at CKSS for arranging the site, and several students for helping set up the tables and a million chairs. Chris Nissen was the man on the snack bar, and also took the entry fees, and gave receipts.

Jim Roesch from JMSS looked after the high school sections. Other teachers in the thick of the action were Norman Grondin and Patrick Lacy.

And, as usual, let's not forget the scorekeepers, without who an event like the Chess Challenge is simply not possible. Let's have a round of applause for

  • Grade 1-2 - Jesse Wheeler and Nathan Bowles
  • Grade 3 - Alley Johnston
  • Grade 4 - Matthew Pond
  • Grade 5 - Chris Stubberfield
  • Grade 6 - Stephen Cook
  • Grade 7A - Andrew Mason
  • Grade 7B - John Powers
  • Grade 8 - Heather Stonehouse
